Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform equipment set-ups, test and evaluations to determine the acceptance or rejection of material.

DIMENSIONS:

Finishing Operations / Quality Assurance (NDT)

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Primary responsibilities include: Perform routine calibrations of NDT equipment. Prove-up results to validate equipment operation and identify nature of defects. Record test results and post material in operations system. Preparation of test specimens for metallurgical evaluations as required.

This job reports directly to the Finishing Routine Facilitator and indirectly to the Finishing Regional Manager.

This job requires a high school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education preferred. It also requiresa completed Metallurgical Technician (NDT) Qualification Checklist. Experience in manufacturing environment preferred, and computer literacy is necessary.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Perform equipment set-ups, tests and evaluations.

Perform routine calibrations of NDT equipment.

Verify testing requirements with AS400 for each order release.

Prove-up results to validate equipment operation and identify nature of defects.

Record test results and post material in AS400.

Perform maintenance of test equipment to ensure continual operation.

Maintain inventory of supplies required to maintain test operations.

Preparation and defect marking of test specimens for metallurgical evaluations as required.

Verify rejected material for chemical/metallurgical evaluations.

Ensure mill defects are put on hold.

Maintain housekeeping and 5S in the area.

Observe and follow all general and departmental safety rules and regulations.

Follow Cardinal Safety Rules.

Complete all required annual safety and environmental training (inc. fugitive dust).

Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of material spills.

Know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.

Utilization of EMM and GBS concepts.
