About The Role

Summary

The Teller Manager is responsible for directing and supervising the branch tellers to enable them to meet the needs of the Bank and its clients. The Teller Manager will be responsible for building and leading a strong, cohesive team and for establishing and maintaining an orderly, customer service-oriented culture. The Teller Manager is also responsible for safe and secure cash handling and operations for the branch. This position requires a sound knowledge of Bank policies, procedures and regulations. The Teller Manager must provide guidance, on the job training and technical assistance to the staff he/she supervises.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the teller line in an efficient, orderly manner
  • Trains (or arranges training for) new tellers and maintain excellent habits and best practices for established tellers
  • Ensures proper cash handling practices and techniques are used at all times
  • Ensures dual control practices are understood and used when appropriate.
  • Provides assistance to entry level tellers and informs them of bank policies, procedures and regulations
  • Assists tellers with questions and help them trouble shoot problems
  • Completes teller performance evaluations and feedback sessions that are completed quarterly
  • Schedules tellers' work hours for adequate coverage (monthly, lunches, vacations, personal days) and assign specific job duties
  • Prepares and conducts weekly teller meetings
  • Assists and supports upper management in compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Monitors teller performance to ensure that bank policies and procedures are being adhered to
  • Investigates and resolves teller overages/shortages and follows through on required reporting
  • Investigates and helps to resolve client complaints in the teller department in a timely manner
  • Maintains knowledge and complies with all bank policies, applicable laws and regulations
  • Trains vault tellers to maintain vault cash and prepare shipments and coin/currency orders as needed
  • Trains vault tellers to balance vault and monitor vault entry logbook
  • Performs surprise teller drawer audits
  • Prepares and assists entry level tellers in preparing Currency Transaction Reports
  • Maintains record retention logs
  • Maintains teller equipment and submits a service call for repair
  • Provides overrides for teller staff when needed
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff to provide instruction, guidance and to develop trust and respect. Conduct regular coaching sessions with team members to review work performance, to provide training/mentoring, and to develop/acknowledge individual/group performance in achieving goals. Ensure compliance with procedures, bank policies and government regulations. Perform quarterly coaching/feedback sessions for performance management; conduct annual review; communicate results to staff, together with action items/goals and improvement plans as needed; ensure performance is at an acceptable level
  • Effectively document and address work/behavior/performance issues/ consult with HR regarding formal disciplinary and/or termination procedures prior to taking action. Effectively handle and resolve conflict and work with difficult employees and/or situations.
  • Support department, division, and company initiatives. Ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, procedures, and government regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities shared with Tellers and ensure that they are accomplished:

  • Maintains knowledge of bank products and services
  • Keeps up to date with the latest security alerts, in order to protect the bank from losses
  • Evaluates & processes deposits, loan payments, safe deposit box rent
  • Processes Night Drop and Mail
  • Processes change orders
  • Prepares cashier's checks
  • Redeems US Savings Bonds
  • Processes & settles cash advances
  • Processes foreign items
  • Scans all work processed during the day
  • Responds to telephone inquiries from clients
  • Manages the money that goes in and out of their cash drawer and balancing the drawer out at the end of their shift
  • Performs other related duties as requested
  • Opens cash drawer every day and utilize drawer if needed based on demand
  • Help assist other tellers with dual control functions throughout day

About You

Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Five years teller experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Provides superior customer service while promoting bank products and services
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize job responsibilities
  • Must understand and support the Bank's philosophy regarding customer service
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Needs to be efficient without sacrificing accuracy
  • Must have a good working knowledge of PC usage and be proficient in word processing

Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.

Working conditions:

Work performed in an office environment. Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

Mental Requirements:

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
