This role contributes to improving health, safety and environment (HSE) performance, helping the organization to deliver a high-performing culture through clear accountability and a skilled organization in the Motion Traction. You will establish and maintain a HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) culture within North American ABB Traction Business Line, Richmond, Virginia and Mt. Olive, New Jersey, by assuring and controlling the HSE with systems, tools and teams to exceed safety expectations while ensuring sustainable operations. Responsible for developing & maintaining the HSE of the local unit, sustaining positive HSE metrics, upholding continuous improvement culture.

Your responsibilities

  • HSE compliance and metrics: Support managers and employees to ensure area of responsibility is compliant with HSE standards, regulations and guidelines. Prepare safety instructions and notices and assists with relevant training. Report HSE incidents
  • Regulatory Compliance: Contribute to assessing emerging trends and legislation in HSE and communicates relevant information on legal requirements within area of expertise and geography. Support unit to operate in compliance with standards and respective legal obligations
  • Risk Management: HSE audits and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and risks and highlights corrective measures required. Supports follow up of improvement actions in the Local Division
  • Communication and engagement: Cooperates across functions and with business partners to raise awareness and drive performance, engages with internal and external stakeholders to build commitment and credibility
  • Operation: Collect, analyze and report on HSE performance, identifies problems and makes suggestions to avoid repeating the problem in the future. Contribute to driving behavioral change and continuous improvement though delivery of training and competence initiatives and expert support to the Local Division in line with yearly HSE plan agreed with the Local Division. Support the sharing of best practice
  • Project management: Contribute to and/or plans and executes Health, Safety and Environment performance and Corporate Responsibility related projects. Develop and report on project objectives. Manage project resources such as manpower, financials and other relevant factors
Your background

  • Bachelor degree and 8 years of relevant work experience required
  • Travel up to 20% required
  • HSE expereince required
  • Possess the ability to successfully function independently as well as in a team environment required
  • Advanced degree, certifications and/or regulatory courses and training. Knowledge of OSHA requirements and standards highly preferred
  • Experience in production of electromechanical components related to Traction converters and battery chargers is an advantage highly preferred
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
