Job Description
Basic Function

The HF Sinclair Casper Refinery has a full-time opening for a Reliability Engineer, a position of which reports to the Inspection and Reliability Manager. The Reliability Engineer functions as a technical specialist, responsible for formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts, and is expected to provide engineering expertise in support of the design, construction, commissioning, start up, operations, and reliability of the refinery.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and update equipment reliability strategies based on industry best practice and leading indicators.
  • Investigate failures and assist in preparation of repairs.
  • Perform reliability data analysis.
  • Review and recommend options to mitigate reliability risks.
  • Advise on the proper use of reliability software and tools.
  • Develop, review, apply, and communicate company and industry concepts related to equipment strategies for Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Mode Identification.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Reliability based initiatives.
  • Assist in implementation and ever-greening of reliability software.
  • Completing all required documentation and interpreting industry and regulatory codes and specifications.
  • Collaborate on projects with the Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering groups.
  • Review Management of Change (MOC) requirements and ensure all Process Safety Management (PSM) elements are implemented.
  • Drive improvements for refinery equipment with a potential emphasis on Rotating, Instrumentation, or Electrical Equipment.
  • Periodically review and update facility specifications and procedures.
  • Perform or support failure and reliability investigations using Root Cause Failure Analysis and make recommendations for mitigation.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a specific engineering discipline in a refinery setting. Experience working with international codes and standards for refinery fixed, rotating, or electrical equipment. Knowledge of design, material selection and failure modes associated with refinery processes.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Possess knowledge or experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance. Knowledge of industry practices for assigning criticality, equipment sparring, and redundancy. Knowledge of design, operation, and troubleshooting of Refinery Rotating, Instrumentation, or Electrical Equipment. Previous experience working with Maintenance and Operations Departments. Experience with Vibration Analysis. Experience with advanced system monitoring devices / programs (System I, Windrock, etc.)

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.

Required Skills

Ability to manage a project is essential. Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery. Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications, Microsoft Office and AutoCad knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential,valid state driver license, and proof of insurance required. Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
