JOB TITLE:

Post Doctoral Research Associate

JOB PURPOSE:

The laboratory of Dr. Jared Bushman at the University of Wyoming is seeking a creative and independent post-doctoral fellow to work on NIH funded research projects related to nervous system injury and regeneration. This fully funded and benefited position is to study the fundamental mechanisms underlying injury to the nervous system and work with an interdisciplinary and inter institutional team to develop novel methods of treatment for peripheral nerve and spinal cord injury. The candidate must have surgical experience in animal models, ideally micro surgical in the nervous system, and a strong background in molecular and cellular biology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be capable of working independently and have the ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written means. The ideal candidate will be intellectually creative and interested in developing new lines of investigation in addition to the funded projects that will grow their skill sets and expertise. Ideal candidates will also be a team builders and proficient in scientific mentorship of junior members of the lab.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have received a PhD in biomedical sciences or related field by the time of the start date
  • Experience in animal surgery and handling
  • Understanding of and experience with cellular and molecular biology methods
  • Data analysis
  • Cell biology techniques
  • Effective communication and writing in English

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will be intellectually creative and interested in developing new lines of investigation in addition to the funded projects that will grow their skill sets and expertise. Ideal candidates will also be a team builders and proficient in scientific mentorship of junior members of the lab. Other desired qualifications include developed expertise evident through published work in:

  • Neurological microsurgical experience for peripheral nerve and spinal cord
  • Behavioral assessments of neurological function
  • Electrophysiology
  • Gene delivery
  • immunohistochemistry/microscopy.
