JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor, Extension Specialist in Human Nutrition and Food

JOB PURPOSE:

Instructional, research, and extension support in Human Nutrition & Food

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses with a food service management and/or food science focus in Human Nutrition and Food/Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DPND). These courses may include: Scientific Study of Foods, Experimental Foods, and Food Systems Production. Additional courses as part of the required teaching load may be negotiable according to the applicant's background and expertise. Teaching responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate students and supporting current and future accreditation standards for the 4+1 Future Graduate Model in Dietetics.
  • Establishing a research program related to human nutrition and food including supervising Master's and/or interdisciplinary Biomedical Science PhD students.
  • Supporting Extension Educators across the state as a resource for food safety, food production, and consumer education.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities will also include contributing to professional, departmental, and university service activities.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email)
  • Communication skills (oral and written)

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in human nutrition, food/nutrition science, dietetics or closely related field at time of appointment
  • Potential for effective college-level teaching
  • Evidence of research track record or potential research stream

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Dietitian (RDN)
  • Established college-level teaching record as graduate student, instructor or above
  • Evidence of published and/or externally funded research
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge in Extension programs and education
  • Pre- or postdoctoral research experience
  • Professional involvement in local, state, or national organizations
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills that facilitates an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and all-around positive environment
