JOB PURPOSE:
The School of Computing at the University of Wyoming invites applications for research scientists in different areas and applications of applied computing, data science and computational science. Research scientists will provide the capacity and capability for the School of Computing to advance research and learning across the University of Wyoming's academic and scholarly disciplines through the use and development of innovative, new, and critical computing technologies and approaches, and through the pursuit of external funding.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
School of Computing research scientists will advance research and learning across the University of Wyoming's academic and scholarly disciplines through the use and development of innovative, new, and critical computing technologies and approaches (including but not limited to HPC, AI/ML, quantum computing, cybersecurity, blockchain, big data analytics, scientific workflow, VR/AR). Research scientists at the School of Computing will grow, and where appropriate provide leadership and strategic direction to, the school's interdisciplinary research in applied computing and foster growth through strategic research opportunities and collaborations with internal and external partners. Research scientist appointments at the University of Wyoming will be made at the Assistant, Associate or Senior level, depending on experience and expertise as outlined in the University of Wyoming regulations for academic professionals.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF COMPUTING:
Established in 2022, the School of Computing has a mission to position the University of Wyoming as a national leader in computational and digital research, education, and engagement; to be a computational hub for students, faculty, staff, community, and external partners; and to serve as a steward, supporter, and developer of digital skills and computational thinking for all. The school is currently incubated in the College of Engineering but will soon emerge as an independent academic unit that will collaborate with all University of Wyoming colleges. The school is currently hiring and recruiting faculty both from the University of Wyoming and via international searches and developing new undergraduate programs and offering for students. Student programs will have an emphasis on experiential learning and the attainment of competencies in computing.
The School of Computing focuses on applications of computing and collaborates with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
The School of Computing will capitalize on extensive computing assets at the University of Wyoming, including the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center, the Advanced Research Computing Center, the Wyoming GIS Center, the Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation, and the Shell 3D Visualization Center. The School of Computing benefits from a deep involvement with the Wyoming Innovation Partnership through which it will develop initiatives for statewide impact in partnership with Wyoming's Community Colleges.
