Location Information
Laramie Care Center is a beautiful community in Laramie, WY, with more than 90 units offering skilled nursing care.
Key Responsibilities

***REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain a valid Wyoming C.N.A license or temporary license within 90 days from date of hire.***

FUNCTION: To provide routine daily nursing care and services that support the care delivered to residents needing skilled nursing care not requiring certification.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Freedom from illegal use of drugs.

 Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

 Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment.

 Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or three-six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain a valid Wyoming C.N.A license or temporary license within 90 days from date of hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with Residents, families and staff members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract three digit numbers, calculate percentage of whole, measure in cubic centimeters (cc) and measure in feet and inches. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, length and height.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key functions.

Care and Services:

1. Strip and remake beds-turn down bed/ incontinent pad/ get night clothing out.

2. Straighten rooms-check resident drawers for appropriate personal ADL supplies, such as toothbrushes, hairbrushes, denture cups, etc. Please label with residents name and date.

3. May set up oral care for independents or for C.N.A to do.

4. Clean and store items in room.

5. Pass towels and washcloths/ stocking.

6. Pass ice water and change ice water pitchers.

7. Wash wheelchairs, walkers, Geri chairs, lifts and other equipment.

8. Clean closets.

9. Answer call lights and run messages.

10. Go on rounds to help empty garbage and to take dirty laundry.

11. Empty trash, clean trash cans, replace liners.

12. Empty linen barrels, replace linen bags.

13. Clean utility rooms.

14. Put away supplies/ stock utility rooms.

15. Pass shirt protectors.

16. Pass food trays and set up ready for meals, monitor halls during meals.

17. Pass snacks.

18. Lay out resident clothes.

19. Pick up dishes and return to kitchen.

20. Push wheelchairs; take residents to and from activities and meals.

21. Visits with residents.

22. Clean and disinfect century tubs and showers.

23. Label closets, drawers, dressers, nightstands, towel racks, etc.

24. Paper work, charting.

25. Meet the residents’ mental health and social needs.

26. Is aware of developmental tasks and physiological changes associated with the aging process.

27. Maintain/support the resident’s right to maintain personal choices.

28. Able to work effectively with the residents’ families and use them as a source of emotional support.

29. Approach all residents in a kind, gentle and friendly manner. Respect for the resident’s dignity and privacy is consistently provided. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information.

30. 18. All grievances/complaints made by the resident are promptly reported to a Licensed Nurse.

31. The Nursing Unit is maintained in a clean/orderly fashion.

32. Resident call lights are answered promptly and appropriate responses to requests are provided

33. Any other duties assigned by supervisor- no skills.

Communication:

1. All changes in a patients/residents condition are reported as soon as possible to the Charge/Staff Nurse.

2. Staff meetings are attended, if on duty. Minutes read and initialed if not on duty.

3. Patient/resident/unit problems are reported to the Charge Nurse.

Performance Requirements:

1. Decisions are made that reflect both knowledge and good judgment.

2. Awareness of own limitation is evident and assistance is sought when necessary

3. Dress code is adhered to.

4. Committee meetings (if assigned) are attended. Reports related to the committee are given during staff meetings.

5. Responsibility is taken for own professional growth. Attend and participate in all scheduled training, educational and orientation classes, programs and activities including annual mandatory classes.

6. Follow work schedules and complete assigned tasks according to the established policies and procedures of the facility.

7. Notifies the facility when late or absent from work. Complies with Five Star Attendance Policy.

8. Organizational ability and time management is demonstrated.

9. Confidentiality of resident is respected at all times (i.e., when answering telephone and/or speaking to co-workers or use of fax or electronic messaging.)

10. Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel to ensure that the needs of the patients/residents are met and maintained.

Human Relations:

1.. A positive working relationship with residents, visitors and facility staff is demonstrated.

2. Authority is acknowledged, and response to the direction of supervisors is appropriate.

3. Time is spent with patients/residents rather than other personnel.

4. Co-workers are readily assisted as needed.

Safety and Sanitation:

1. Immediately notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any resident leaving/ missing from the facility.

2. Keep floors dry. Report spills immediately.

3. Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately.

4. Report all safety violations.

5. Follow established procedures in the sue and disposal of personal protective equipment.

6. Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving residents.

7. Operate all equipment in a safe manor.

Resident Rights: Promotes and protects residents’ rights, assists Residents to make informed decisions, treats Residents with dignity and respect, protects Residents’ personal belongings, reports suspected abuse or neglect, avoids the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards and, supports independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation.
